Church fathers on interpreting the creation account

2010 April 5
by Joshua Blanchard

The millions upon millions of readers of this blog will have noticed that I regularly claim, without any apparent evidence beyond my own confidence, that issues like the literalistic interpretation of the creation account in Genesis have been distorted by moder theological movements, especially the epistemological claims of Protestantism (e.g. sola scriptura and the contemporary focus on “inerrancy”). I casually cite some historical theologian I happen to have read, especially my favorite, William Abraham.

Well here’s a nice little collection of excerpts from patristric literature on the creation story, evidencing a diversity of views. Thanks, Catholic website.
